Hong Kong first appeared at the Helsinki 1952 Olympic Games.
Their team of two men and two women competed in swimming. Since then they have taken part at every Olympic Games except Moscow 1980.
They have also participated in the Winter Olympic Games since 2002. Windsurfer LEE Lai Shan was Hong Kong's first Olympic champion. She won gold at the Atlanta 1996 Games. Sailing events were held in Savannah.
From 2000, the team have been known as Hong Kong China. Their other medal to date came in table tennis. At the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, the pairing of KO Lai Chak and LI Ching reached the men's doubles final.
Hong Kong sent a team of 34 in 11 sports to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. They also hosted the equestrian events at those Games.
