Zimbabwe first competed under that name at the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games.

Their women's hockey team sprung a major upset to take gold. Their only individual Olympic medallist is swimmer Kirsty COVENTRY, who won a medal of each colour at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. Her gold came in the 200m backstroke, silver in the 100m backstroke and bronze in the 200m individual medley.

At the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, COVENTRY set a world record to retain the 200m backstroke and confirmed her position as Zimbabwe's most successful Olympian.

She has claimed seven medals in a career spanning three Olympic Games from 2000 to 2008.

Distance runner Tendai CHIMUSAA became the first Zimbabwean to compete in three Olympic Games. He completed successive Olympic marathons, his best placing a ninth at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Tapfumaneyi JONGA competed in the men's marathon in Moscow in 1980 and over 800m and 1500m at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games.

Husband Wrexham and wife Meryllyn TARR represented Zimbabwe in archery at Seoul 1988.

Brothers Wayne and Byron, and sister Cara BLACK have all represented Zimbabwe in tennis. Zimbabwe sent a team of 13 in six sports to the Beijing 2008 Games.

They competed as Southern Rhodesia in 1928 and 1960.
