Sprinter Cydonie MOTHERSILL is the Cayman Islands' most successful Olympian.
At the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games she reached the women's 200m final, finishing eighth. She had competed in four consecutive Olympic Games from 1996 onwards, making her the first Cayman Islander do so. Her husband Ato MODIBO competed in Beijing for Trinidad.
The Cayman Islands were first represented at the Montreal 1976 Olympic Games by sailors Gerry KIRJCONNELL and Peter MILBURN, who took part in the 470s at the Olympic regatta.
Merilyn PHILLIPS was their first female Olympian. She took part in the cycling road race at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games.
Kareem STREETE-THOMPSON represented the Cayman Islands at the 1992, 2000 and 2004 Games in the long jump. He also competed in the 100m at the 1992 and 2004 Games, reaching the quarterfinals in Athens.
Shaune FRASER and younger brother Brett swam for the Cayman Islands at the Beijing Games.
Cayman Islands are yet to win an Olympic medal.
